Established in 1947, the VFW Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 40,000 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of $2.1 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
The national first-place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. The VFW National Patriot’s Pen Program is a youth essay contest conducted by the Posts and Auxiliaries. This contest gives students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, the opportunity to express their own opinions and improve their writing skills for a given theme, while they compete for worthwhile awards and prizes.
VFW Post and Auxiliary 9934 will be accepting entries for the Patriot’s Pen Program for 2017.
The theme for the contest year 2017-18 will be America’s Gift to My Generation.
The deadline for submitting contest entries to the Post will be October 31, 2017.

Access to the park area through the tunnel at Salt Creek Beach parking lot.
Free shuttle busses from Dana Hills High School to the park from1:00 to 7:00 pm. August 6 concert shuttles run from 10:00 am to 8:30 pm.
